Homemade Snow Cream

Albeit coming from NYC, I spent most of my years growing up in the South, where the closest you come to snow is shaved ice from the local ice cream parlor. Now that I live in Chicago, I get real snow all the time {sometimes more than I like} which means I can make REAL Snow Cream!

We had a fresh snowfall yesterday so I decided to set out a bowl to collect some {clean} snow and make some for dessert. This is one of the easiest recipes and can be ready in about 5 minutes.


8 cups of snow
1 - 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Mix the sweetened condensed milk and vanilla extract together in a large bowl.
Add the snow to the mix slowly, stirring in thoroughly.
Add sprinkles and serve!
{Yields 4-5 servings}

One {BIG} note…

The snow will melt some when making the snow cream, so act fast! I prefer to mix the ingredients first then add in the snow, so that the snow doesn't melt as much when mixing everything together. I also prefer to use a metal bowl, which enables the bowl to retain the cold from the snow when mixing it in and helps it to not melt as much. If the snow melts too much when mixing everything together, put it in the freezer for about 30 minutes to let it harden before serving.

Oh… and make sure when you collect the snow to avoid the yellow stuff!
